A Bounce-Back Performance

Thursday nights the Eagles were on the road to play Southern Victoria High School Vikings at their home field in Perth Andover. The away games take a lot of coordination – many thanks go to the parents that helped to transport the players to the game. We seriously could not do this without them!

The SMA team was bolstered with Lorenzo back in the lineup and along with Obey and Will created a very strong midfield trio. Illyasse and Noah anchored the defense again with a strong performance.

The scoring opened in the 6th minute on a goal by Obey and the team never looked back. The coaches were very pleased with the ball movement overall and passing efforts were strong. There were only a few situations where the ball was given to the Vikings as unforced errors.

William put a ball past the goalkeeper in the 11th minute which was followed by the first goal of the season for Meriem in the 12th minute, who enjoyed her new role as a center forward.

Everybody played and everybody had some highlights – getting their heads up, a good pass or two and covering for their teammates.

Lorenzo capped off the first half, scoring with a solid strike in the 19th minute.

The second half started well with improved ball movement. However as the half wore on, tired minds resulted in some lapses in team play, but the strong midfield and defense cleaned things up.

Owen’s effort drew a penalty opportunity in the second half and he put the shot from the penalty spot past the Viking’s keeper in the 66 minute. The game ended 5-0 for the Eagles.

Steeve put in a solid performance making great passes to set up scoring opportunities and we saw a good performance by Berthley as a defender. Ben played forward AND defense and showed excellent progress in both positions.

Kyle was solid when he needed to be and was able to keep a clean sheet.

The last regular season home game for the Eagles kicks off Monday night at 5:30 on the turf field next to CDJ against the ONLY team we have lost to, John Caldwell. Let’s see the outcome here at home.  – come on out and support the team. Go Eagles!

Pictures are from the John Caldwell away game as we had no photographer who travelled with the team. Thanks to all who drove to Andover to watch the team! We appreciate the support!
