SMA Game 5 vs John Caldwell

October 6 2025

The Eagles welcomed the John Caldwell Golden Knights for the return match after a 5-2 loss to them one week prior. With Lorenzo back in the lineup one could expect a difference as his ball distribution is exceptional. He and Obey provide good leadership for the team so expectations were high.

Obey opened the scoring in the 6th minute after a fantastic pass from Lorenzo. Meriem also scored a goal, but it was called back due to controlling it with a hand before putting it past the keeper – an unlucky bounce struck her arm. Owen added a well-earned goal in the 35th minute to finish the half with a 2-0 lead.

In the 51st minute Obey Akakpo #13 scored his 13th goal of this season making it 3-0 for SMA. The Golden Knights were awarded a penalty kick in the 53rd minute after Sir Amor-Ilyasse slayed a Knight in the penalty area. The JCS player was able get it by a diving Kyle to give JCS their first goal of the game. (3-1).

Everybody played and everybody had some highlights – getting their heads up, a good pass or two and covering for their teammates. The Eagles added another marker at 63’ when Obey tallied his 3rd goal of the night 4-1 for the Eagles.

Wanting to get a good goal differential to help with the playoff outlook, Lorenzo took the ball on a solid pass, sliced through the Golden Knights like Excalibur and shot the ball with the outside of his right boot. He beat the keeper in the 69th minute to have the game finish at 5-1. The better goal differential may help gain a home field advantage should the team make the playoffs.

While there are always opportunities for improvement, everyone had some shining moments. You could hear the home field crowd cheering for Ben and Broden as they put in positive efforts. Josiah’s return was positive for the defence and Horland and Will continues to cause trouble for JCS. Kyle was able to remind them that he is indeed a keeper that will create issues for them.

Noah and Steeve’s second half was solid, and Nathan played a better role at right back. Prya made a terrific block of a shot and Matthis made some good defensive plays.
