The Saint Mary’s Academy Eagles soccer team remain undefeated after five games.  The visiting Carlton North High School Stars had their hands full with the attacking Eagles. The Stars had the first shot on net handily stopped by Demi, who ended up with a clean sheet on a night where the Eagles won seven to nothing. The coaches decided to invoke the mercy rule (NBIIA rule 18.11-#9) when leading by six goals at the 57-minute mark. This allowed the Eagles to field some under-utilized players and give them valuable playing experience against the very physical team.

Zizou opened the scoring at the two-minute mark and then added another goal in the ninth minute of play.  After an elbow to the nose at the 12-minute mark had him removed to stop the bleeding he returned with force in the second half.  Lorenzo added another goal at the 30th minute with a longer range shot that found the back of the net.  Obey bent a ball from a distance adding to the tally at 31 minutes and the half closed out 4-0 in favor of the Eagles.  The second half started with Zizou scoring at the 39th minute mark for 3 goals, a well-earned hat trick.   In the 40th minute the Eagles were awarded a penalty shot and Issa converted to make the score 6-0.

Demi came up big with saves when it counted, and his confidence grows with each match. The coaches were very pleased with the team play as they become more cohesive with additional game time. Passing is improving, shooting is improving, spirits are improving. Our last regular season game for the Eagles occurs on Wednesday, October 9th against the Southern Victoria High School.  Being undefeated is great but we always look ahead not behind. There is more for the Eagles, we have not landed yet. We look forward to the continued support of the fans, made up of students, families, staff and interested bystanders who just want to see good soccer. Thank you all for your continued attendance, encouragement and support. Go Eagles!
